We’re not Dyking Out with any ol’ bisexual this week. We’ve got THE Bisexual, Desiree Akhavan! After hyping her work for years (Appropriate Behavior, The Miseducation of Cameron Post), we finally sit down and talk about her life as a Persian, queer filmmaker quarantined in Brooklyn. While Carolyn finds Desiree’s work super relatable, Melody finds her whole life to be super relatable, perhaps TOO relatable. They talk about their experiences coming out while Persian and how they relate to their culture. We also talk about The Bisexual (stream it on Hulu) and the challenges queer shows and films face in attracting mainstream audiences. Before we get into all things Persianality, Melody and Carolyn introduce a new weekly segment and talk about cake. Finally, we end with a question from a listener who hasn’t had sex with her partner in over a year.
