Accompliceship w/ Amber Hikes – Ep. 220

Show up for this episode, and you might just learn how to better show up for those who could use your accompliceship. Activist Amber Hikes joins us for a thoughtful and fun conversation about how we can make our respective privilege work for others. What’s the difference between an ally and an accomplice? And how do we know who we should be listening to for guidance? Plus, what does calling someone in have to do with food stuck in teeth? Also, Melody FINALLY comes around on flags. But before we get to the important stuff, your hosts talk Discord, scones, and cleavage. Finally, we answer a question from a listener who is at a crossroads in their relationship.

90s Queer Subtext w/ Nayomi Reghay – Ep. 219

Did you love that queer storyline in Empire Records, or were you not watching it through rainbow-colored glasses? Comedian and writer Nayomi Reghay joins us to talk about things that felt super gay in the 90s, but probably weren’t meant to. But with such limited content that was explicitly queer, we were forced to create our own narratives. It didn’t help that every teen heartthrob looked like a soft butch, or that the lead actress in a romcom always had a female friend who only cared about her. And sure, she’s not subtext, but we just had to talk about our good friend Ro, and Nayomi is the reason why Carolyn met Rosie in the first place. We also address important questions, like, “Is making banana bread gay?” Plus, Carolyn and Melody book a couple of gaycations. And finally, we answer a question from a listener who isn’t sure if they want to have kids.

Queer Imposter Syndrome w/ Janet Hyde – Ep. 218

FEMALE comedian Janet Hyde joins us to talk about her past struggles with self-diagnosed Queer Imposter Syndrome. Have you ever felt like you weren’t queer enough? Do lesbian cultural references have you scratching your head? Or do actual lesbians have you doubting yourself? (Shame on them!). Many people have wrestled with feeling unsure of their place in the queer community. Especially bi/pan/queer folks. And especially when first coming out. But are we holding ourselves to standards that aren’t based in reality? And what can we do to overcome those feelings of not being enough? You know, besides getting engaged to another queer person. Plus, Carolyn’s gayest thing reminds Melody of her bisexual awakening, and Melody tries to take down a bigoted two-steppin’ hot spot once and for all! Finally, we end with not one, but TWO listener questions!

New Year’s w/ Kemah Bob – Ep. 217

New year, new, well…why does anything have to be new? Delightfully funny comedian Kemah Bob joins us to process the end of one calendar year and the start of a new one. Why are we tempted to revise and reinvent ourselves? Must you possess big journaling energy to be more present? Should you kick off the year by muting people on social media? Also, we learn about Kemah’s drag persona, their nana, and who is in their core 4, Plus, Melody reflects on the gay moments from her birthday, and Carolyn finds a way to make watching Carol even more gay. Finally, we end with a question we’re not qualified to answer about awkward public restroom confrontations.

Birding w/ Grace Bonney – Ep. 216

The bird’s the word on this episode with author and blogger Grace Bonney. Grace’s love of watching birds is queer and contagious. So what’s the big deal about birding anyway? How can it positively affect your mental health? What’s the community like? Why does it feel so queer? Which birds seem most sapphic? Are all pigeons elder queers? We answer all these questions and nerd out about so much more. Plus, we also talk about Grace’s latest book, Collective Wisdom, and what they learned in the process of writing it. Also, find out if the omicron variant hindered Carolyn and Melody’s gayness this week. Finally, we strap in for a listener question about strap-on etiquette.
