Cheating w/ Caitlin Reese – Ep. 105

TRIGGER WARNING (see topic for reference). Comedian Caitlin Reese came by to talk about one of the unfortunate realities of being in relationships: cheating! Unfortunately, most of us have experience with this act, whether we were the perp, victim, or the side piece. Or perhaps you have people in your life whose cheating has affected you even though you aren’t romantically involved. We talk all about physical and emotional cheating, why we do it, and how to cope with the aftermath. There was so much to cover here and impossible to tackle it all. Before we re-opened all our relationship wounds, we talked about Halloween and a real-life monster that past guest Amber Rollo unexpectedly encountered and confronted. And as always, we end on a listener question about mental health in relationships.

Bad Lesbian Movies w/ Kendall Payne – Ep. 104

Pop some popcorn and get ready to binge on things that make us cringe! Comedian and director Kendall Payne (Netflix Is A Joke) dykes out with us about the bad lesbian movies we love to watch, or not watch in Sarah’s case. Whether it’s problematic couplings, overdone tropes, cheesy dialogue, or un-relatable narratives created by the heteros, there are a lot of movies geared toward queer women that miss the mark. Also, we reveal the name we’ll be using to refer to our amazing listeners. And we also come up with a list of things that are inherently queer, starting with murder and ending with Canada. What else made the list? You’ll have to listen to find out! Plus, we answer a listener question about her not-too-alpha girlfriend.

Weed w/ John-Allison “A.W.” Weiss – Ep. 103

We had a chill time this week with singer-songwriter John-Allison Weiss (who performs as A.W.) talking about a popular herb that we obtained legally and are old enough to smoke/ingest. Eventually the topic kicks in, but we take our time getting there to catch up on Ellen and Madonna. We also shout out a past guest who was in the movie Hustlers, and learn about Sarah’s foray into somewhat relevant queer content. Once the smoke clears, we tackle the topic and share our earliest experiences with marijuana. What’s our relationship with it? Does it play a role in the creative process? What are the draw backs? And please remember A.W.’s wise advise to be responsible and wait until your brain finishes developing. Finally, we roll it all up with our listener question about how to deal with her loneliness.

Navigating Gender w/ Annick Adelle – Ep. 102

German-born and L.A.-based comedian Annick Adelle joined us to dyke out about Navigating Gender. Annick is exploring the gender spectrum and starting to make decisions about to which extent to transition. We talk about the spectrum of gender and how different everyone’s experience with it is, as well as how that can change over time (or not!). How does dysphoria affect identity and our perceptions of gender? What are some of the things people consider when trying to affirm their appearance with how they feel? Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper Dyking Out episode without a few detours into topics like Judy Garland, Tegan & Sara, the resistance, and motorcycles. Plus, we answer a listener question about confiding in the subject of a past fling.

Top Surgery w/ Shannon Noll – Ep. 101

Chicago comedian Shannon Noll came by to dyke out about their recent top operation, giving us all the nipple-hardening details (actually, no nipples required!). We talk about what made them want to get it in the first place, the procedure itself, and financial challenges. We also talk about how different their life is now, and how others reacted to it (even though it’s none of their business).

This was our first time recording in 20 days, so before we talk about tops, we start at the bottom by chewing out the women who defend terrible men in comedy. Carolyn also issues a couple of important corrections and updates from previous episodes, and we answer a very tricky listener question about being in a relationship with opposing political beliefs. We had such a great time with Shannon. Be sure to check out their series, Just Call Me Ripley.
