Doulas w/ Solange Azor – Ep. 120

On this episode, we do our doula due diligence by dyking out with the lovely Solange Azor! On top of being a funny comedian and writer, Solange is a full-service doula who helps women through pregnancy, giving birth, abortion, and postpartum needs. And wouldn’t you know it, the world of doulas is extraordinarily queer. Carolyn also shares more about her and her wife’s process for starting a family, while Melody explains what a period coach is. This episode is so educational, we’re surprised it’s not on PBS! Well, maybe because we also talk about pillows with vibrators, our hatred of Oligarchs, and headline grabbers. Plus, we end with a question from a listener who is trying not to let her past drama get in the way of her future.

Cabarets w/ Eliot Glazer – Ep. 113

We’re kicking off the new year with an episode about some of the queerest entertainment of all! No, not Saoirse Ronan’s lesbian-energy-fueled portrayal of Jo March in Little Women. We’re dyking out about Cabarets with the funny and talented Eliot Glazer (Broad City, You’re Making It Worse podcast) and guest co-host Courtney Rada (Carnivorous on Food Network). Recorded the day after our holigay spectacular at NYC’s Joe’s Pub (the site of so many queertastic cabarets), we talk about the icons who have built their reputations with this medium, and why Cabarets are inherently gay. Plus, we talk about Eliot’s super popular live show, Haunting Renditions. We also talk about Pete Buttigieg, our body temperatures, Howard Stern and Celine Dion. Eventually, we end with a messy question from a listener who is suspicious of her partner’s friend. Strap in and strap on because we hope to make 2020 our dykiest year yet!

Intersecting Identities w/ Jess Guilbeaux – Ep. 79

Season 3 Episode 5 of Netflix’s Queer Eye brought us the story of Jess Guilbeaux, a strong black lesbian who was out on her own after being outed to her adoptive family. Jess was gracious enough to dyke out with us about how that episode has affected her life, but also about living with intersecting identities. Many of us our judged by our identity, or identities, as many of us have multiple. But sometimes they can be at odds with each other, or we may be at odds with the label itself when we don’t fit perfectly into societies expectation of one category or another. We talk about labels and doing the work for more marginalized identities, and end with a plea to Paramore and a listener question about her family who doesn’t acknowledge her queerness.

Activism w/ Amy Siskind – Ep. 47

THE Amy Siskind (The New Agenda, The Weekly List) joins us to Dyke Out about activism in the face of an administration that’s worse than season 7 of The L Word (or Below Her Mouth which we discuss up top). Amy has been following and documenting the daily deluge of the harmful and #notnormal actions happening under this government, and we are just in awe of her ability to take on such an exhausting endeavor. We ask about how important it is to pay attention to what’s happening vs. ignoring it for your own sanity. And, on a scale of finding a girlfriend in Canada to stockpiling water for your soon-to-be-built doomsday bunker, how nervous do you need to be about Trump getting re-elected? We don’t want to give away too much, but this episode gave us the optimistic boost we’ve been needing! But before we talk about Amy, we dyke out about bad lesbian movies, the lesbian breakup heard ’round the internet, and how much we love Sharice Davids.

Politics of Misogyny w/ Talia Lavin – Ep. 35

The hilarious, smart, and talented Talia Lavin (The New Yorker, Village Voice, Jewish Daily Forward) joins us to dyke out about the everyday rage fire that is misogyny, specifically, how it plays into politics and how different parties deal with it. Talia drops some knowledge about fearless Stormy Daniels and her MMA fighter– er, lawyer, and she shares her thoughts on why it’s important to hold people accountable for misogynistic and abusive behavior. We also salivate over the movie Disobedience, praise Lena Waithe’s wardrobe choices, and Talia tells us about a sex toy that has her seeing sparks.
