Comics w/ Vita Ayala – Ep. 42, Part 1

ComicsPt1_PostFeature
Holy podcast batman! Comic book writer Vita Ayala joins us for our first two part episode where we dyke out about – you guessed it – comics! Vita has written for DC comics, Black Mask Studios, Vault Comics, and Valiant Comics, and you should check out their most recent series, The Wilds. We cover so much ground, but spend the first chunk of the podcast talking about Beyonce and whether or not she has a magic touch, the dyke march, trolls, and comebacks. But when we get down to business, we learn all about Vita’s journey from believing Wonder Woman is Puerto Rican (it does make a lot of sense!), to them one day writing for Wonder Woman!!! Follow your dreams people. We also talk about how and why comics are becoming increasingly queer and intersectional, including bisexual Buffy because Carolyn loves to change the topic to Buffy whenever possible. Tune in next week for the second part of the episode where we get Vita’s hot recs, search for subtext, and answer a listener’s question. Femme Invisibility w/ Jacq The Stripper – Ep. 36

Queer Bimbo(TM) Jacqueline Frances aka Jacq the Stripper graces the Dyking Out studio with her presence to talk about Femme Invisibility. Is it still even a thing? What kind of pressures do baby dykes face to look or conform to certain lesbian ideals? Do we all go through the vest phase? We revisit our Strippers topic as Jacq dishes about why women are terrible strip club patrons, and how the gig has helped her be true to her own identity when she’s off the stage. We also talk about Canada because when you have two Canadians in the same space, by law, they have to talk about. Plus, Carolyn rants about the terfs who attacked her on Twitter.

Strippers w/ Amber Rollo – Ep. 19

How much do you know about women who strip? Before this episode, we knew at least one thing: many of them date other women. But what’s it really like to be the subject of the male gaze for pay? Stand up comedian and podcaster Amber Rollo dykes out with us about her former gig as a stripper (we learned that exotic dancer is NOT the preferred term). Needless to say, this episode is quite revealing! We also talk about the Golden Globes, dead lesbians, and the newly minted #MineToo movement that we’re hoping will gain traction.
