Ex-Husbands w/ Tessa Skara – Ep. 95

¡Ay, caramba! Comedian and rock goddess Tessa Skara (High Maintenance) came to dyke out with us about ex-husbands, though admittedly, she has more to say on the topic than we do. Tessa tells us how TV sitcoms shaped her idea of what a husband was supposed to be, and how her queer identity affected the relationship. Her journey to becoming a fabulous NYC divorcée is heartfelt, fascinating, funny, and probably relatable for many of our listeners. We also talk about Broadway’s The Prom, our own proms, holding in emotions, and the toxic manifestations repressed homosexuality. Plus, we share our theories and gripes on the now infamous “Work Wife” piece from The New York Times. And as always, we end with a listener question about the acceptance of being aroflux in the LGBTQ community. Thank goodness for Google.

Making Your Move w/ Robby Hoffman – Ep. 62

What are you even doing with you’re life if you’re not taking advantage of Uniqlo’s cashmere sale and dyking out with comedian Robby Hoffman (The Chris Gethard Show, Just For Laughs)? We invited Robby to talk about how to make a move on someone you’re interested in, a topic that several listeners have asked about. We explore the dynamic between masc and femme women, and how different the dynamics are for femmes seeking femmes. What’s the best way to know if that chick you’re digging is into you? What went down in Carolyn’s sister’s room? Robby explains why Carolyn is no longer allowed to be friends with women, but not before she makes a pitch to Wild Fang about the perfect bathing suit. Also, Carolyn shares a DYKONIC moment that she never knew was in store for her. Plus, we (really Sarah and Robby) give a listener some excellent advice on how to handle her flirty but straight (?????) roommate.

Tinder w/ Lane Moore – Ep. 60

We’re SWIPING RIGHT on this episode with the girl you wish you were best friends with in high school, the supremely talented Lane Moore (HBO’s Girls, Tinder Live, GLAAD Award recipient). Lane teases us with the queerest details of her new book How To Be Alone (out now), including her dabbling with witchcraft and crushes on best friends. Then we talk about her live Tinder show where she engages in ridiculous conversations with the straight men of Tinder to see just how much nonsense they’ll tolerate. You definitely don’t want to miss this episode! We end with a question from a trans listener who is considering sexual reassignment surgery.

Loneliness w/ Aimée Lutkin – Ep. 58

Feeling lonely? Let us keep you company! The one and only Aimée Lutkin (Jezebel, UCB, 2 Dates a Week) joins us to talk about dating, being single and loneliness in an episode recorded right before Halloween (Carolyn’s couples costume announcement will be old news). Fun fact: being in a romantic relationship does not shield you from feeling lonely. We talk about the different ways that people feel lonely, as well as the unfortunate pressures we put on single people who are just trying to live their damn lives. Also, Sarah temporarily swears off relationships while Carolyn rolls her eyes so hard, you can almost hear it. We also take a listener question about what to do when you bomb a date with someone you were into.

Life-Changing Decisions w/ Liz Glazer – Ep. 57

Comedian and friend of the podcast Liz Glazer graced our studio with her presence to dyke out philosophically about Life-Changing Decisions! What does changing your career from Lawyer to Comedian/Actor have to do with coming out? More than you think! We explore how and why we make life-altering choices in our life, and what role our emotions place in the decision-making process. These moments are often scary and come with loads of uncertainty, so how do you navigate them and know whether or not you’re making the right decision? How do you support others on the brink of making a big change? You’ll also learn about the fun time Carolyn met Cecilia’s ex-wife, and what Liz had to do with it. Plus, we answer a listener question about how to deal with religious parents when you’re in a new and important relationship.

Matchmaking w/ Kara Laricks – Ep. 55

Fashion designer turned reality-TV-winner turned matchmaker Kara Laricks joins us to dyke out about matchmaking! We live in a world of swipes and DMs, but does that have to be the only way to date? Kara tells us all about how she sets up “foxy singles” with her LGBTQ clients, and what it means to be a matchmaker specifically for that community. We hear all about the do’s and don’ts of first dates (hint: stop talking about your ex so much!), as well as why you shouldn’t lose hope when a date doesn’t work out. Plus, Carolyn discovers her wife’s secret super power and apologizes for assuming Awkwafina is a gaysian! We end with a listener question about how to talk about your ex that you dated pre-transition.

Interracial Relationships w/ Lauren Ashley Smith – Ep. 54

We welcomed back Lauren Ashley Smith (The Rundown With Robin Thede, VH1.com, Netflix) to dyke out with us, because once was not enough! This time, we’re tackling the topic of interracial relationships. Are queer couple more likely to enter them? What are some of the challenges? How can each person use their respective privilege to support the other? There is so much to discuss around this topic, but we get a tad distracted while getting into race politics in America and how it presents its own set of challenges. Plus, Carolyn gives her reviews of the movies Lizzie and Colette, and she delivers a very important PSA for anyone in a Q&A session.

Divorce w/ Tara Clancy- Ep. 50

For our 50th episode, the incredible Tara Clancy (NYT, NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, The Moth) joined us to talk about Carolyn’s favorite topic: Divorce! Okay, maybe it’s not her favorite topic, but it was nice to have another divorced dyke to commiserate with. We talk about the external pressures that make you feel bad about ending your marriage, even when it’s the best thing for everyone involved. How do things get to that point? How do you move on? What do you do when children are involved? Are vacations to National Parks the beginning of the end for queer couples? We also take a listener’s question about her “friend” who she swears isn’t her, but we’re not buying it!

U-Hauling w/ Sophie Santos – Ep. 49

Comedian, writer, and actress Sophie Santos (UCB, The Lesbian Agenda, Handmaid’s Tale: The Musical) joins us to talk about the answer to the classic setup, “What does a lesbian bring to a second date?” Hint: It’s not a dental dam.  We dissect the urge to merge and whether or not we’re really that much quicker to sign a lease with our ladies than hetero couples. We also talk about what kind of girlfriend with think Cara Delevingne is, what Pink’s life could have been had her career not taken off, and whether or not it’s weird that Carolyn would totally get with Madonna (in theory) no matter how insufferable she is. You’ll have to listen to the whole episode to find out whether or not we all move in together by the end (or whether or not we figure out the VMAs). Oh, and this episode is definitely NOT sponsored by Norwegian or Spirit airlines.

Threesomes w/ Brooke Arnold – Ep. 32

Three’s company in this episode all about threesomes. Comedian and recovering fundamentalist Brooke Arnold (Caroline’s on Broadway, Marie Claire, NYC Fringe Fest) dykes out with us about doing the deed with a party of 2. How do threesomes come about? Why do couples love asking lesbians to join them in bed? Is it possible for couples to have healthy threesomes that don’t ruin their relationship? Also, we expose Tall Texans for what it really is, a front for Lone Star dykes. And, Brooke spills the deets about her vagina dentata (sort of).
