Loneliness w/ Aimée Lutkin – Ep. 58

Feeling lonely? Let us keep you company! The one and only Aimée Lutkin (Jezebel, UCB, 2 Dates a Week) joins us to talk about dating, being single and loneliness in an episode recorded right before Halloween (Carolyn’s couples costume announcement will be old news). Fun fact: being in a romantic relationship does not shield you from feeling lonely. We talk about the different ways that people feel lonely, as well as the unfortunate pressures we put on single people who are just trying to live their damn lives. Also, Sarah temporarily swears off relationships while Carolyn rolls her eyes so hard, you can almost hear it. We also take a listener question about what to do when you bomb a date with someone you were into.

Matchmaking w/ Kara Laricks – Ep. 55

Fashion designer turned reality-TV-winner turned matchmaker Kara Laricks joins us to dyke out about matchmaking! We live in a world of swipes and DMs, but does that have to be the only way to date? Kara tells us all about how she sets up “foxy singles” with her LGBTQ clients, and what it means to be a matchmaker specifically for that community. We hear all about the do’s and don’ts of first dates (hint: stop talking about your ex so much!), as well as why you shouldn’t lose hope when a date doesn’t work out. Plus, Carolyn discovers her wife’s secret super power and apologizes for assuming Awkwafina is a gaysian! We end with a listener question about how to talk about your ex that you dated pre-transition.

Interracial Relationships w/ Lauren Ashley Smith – Ep. 54

We welcomed back Lauren Ashley Smith (The Rundown With Robin Thede, VH1.com, Netflix) to dyke out with us, because once was not enough! This time, we’re tackling the topic of interracial relationships. Are queer couple more likely to enter them? What are some of the challenges? How can each person use their respective privilege to support the other? There is so much to discuss around this topic, but we get a tad distracted while getting into race politics in America and how it presents its own set of challenges. Plus, Carolyn gives her reviews of the movies Lizzie and Colette, and she delivers a very important PSA for anyone in a Q&A session.

Soulmates w/ Morgan Miller – Ep. 39

The UNIVERSE brought UCB’s Morgan Miller our way to dyke out about soulmates and why you can’t buy bedding at T.J. Maxx. Morgan is a hilarious comedian who has performed all over the country and has recently become more in tune with her spiritual side. Have you ever met someone and felt like you knew them in a past life? How do you know if you’ve met your soulmate? Morgan shares how she met hers, while Carolyn (yes, she’s calling herself Carolyn again) reflects on how her lack of belief in soulmates may have led to her divorce. And as a lesbian, how do you know the difference between a soulmate and a first date??? We also play a little game we like to call “Soulmate Material?”, admit our fears around Dinah Shore, and preach about the transformative qualities of submerging your naked body in waters of different temperatures.

Sex With Dudes w/ Vivianne A. Njoku – Ep. 38

Queer multimedia artist, activist and educator, Vivianne A. Njoku, joins us for one of the funnest episodes to date! Don’t be fooled by the topic (but do have your vomit bags ready if even the mere mention of dick activates your gag reflex), because we are dyking out hard on this one. We talk about everything from Mellisa Etheridge’s weed farm to the aging royal family, to a maybe murderous grandmother. Then, we guess why queer women who mostly date women resort to sleeping with men, and discuss the perils involved. What kind of men are queer women attracted to? Are their guidelines to sexual fluidity? If you could have virtual reality sex with a man, would you? ARE WE LIVING IN A SIMULATION?! Seriously though, this episode is wild and fun and one of our favorites for sure. We hope you enjoy it!

Representation in Movies w/ Erin Greenwell – Ep. 34

Filmmaker Erin Greenwell – yeah, that’s right. We totally know people who aren’t comedians. Anyway, Erin Greenwell (Director, Writer, Editor of My Best Day which premiered at Sundance in 2012) joins us to talk about how queer representation has changed in movies over the years. We’ve come a long way from All About Eve…or have we? Why does every queer movie have to be a forbidden love story? As a film professor, Erin pushes her students to be true to their experiences in hopes that it translates to authentic stories that real people can relate to. Hopefully that will lead to more movies being made that Sarah will actually watch so that she knows what Carolyn and Karina are ranting about half the time. We also touch on all things Joy Reid and our excitement over Disobedience…even though it’s just another queer forbidden love story. We’ll see!

Threesomes w/ Brooke Arnold – Ep. 32

Three’s company in this episode all about threesomes. Comedian and recovering fundamentalist Brooke Arnold (Caroline’s on Broadway, Marie Claire, NYC Fringe Fest) dykes out with us about doing the deed with a party of 2. How do threesomes come about? Why do couples love asking lesbians to join them in bed? Is it possible for couples to have healthy threesomes that don’t ruin their relationship? Also, we expose Tall Texans for what it really is, a front for Lone Star dykes. And, Brooke spills the deets about her vagina dentata (sort of).

She plays the new girlfriend of the non-crazy ex-girlfriend on the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, comedian Emma Willmann (Late Show, Sirius XM, NPR, HBO’s Crashing) drops by the Dyking Out studios to talk about sex…and comedy, and dating, and exes, and podcasts…but also sex. How do you figure out sexual boundaries? What role do toys play? What’s the right way to bring up STDs? Lesbian bed death? WHO’S THE MAN??? (SPOILER: It’s always Emma). Take a listen to this wild ride of an episode, and find out why Emma is a force on the comedy scene. Also…

The Closet w/ Kelley Quinn – Ep. 28

Because she’s no longer trapped in the closet, comedian Kelley Quinn (Upright Citizens Brigade) came to dyke out about what it’s like to have to keep your sexuality a secret. As many of us know, coming out is something that many in the LGBTQ community have to do over and over again. Can we envision a future where we no longer need to “come out” with our sexuality? What is the role of straight people in keeping us in the closet? Does anyone enjoy the closet? What about all the queers in Hollywood who keep dodging the issue?  We also talk about whether or not a movie is an appropriate first date, and which cartoon characters were totes gay. Take a listen! Oh, and:

Dating Straight Women w/ J. Fox-Jones – Ep. 25

Comedian and dater of straight women, J. Fox-Jones joins us this week to tell us why some lesbians end up with women who used to exclusively date men. Do lesbians seek out straight women as a challenge, or are these ladies hunting us down while we’re just minding our own business? If you date a straight woman, does that mean you have to *GULP* watch The Bachelor????!!! Does she assume you’ll handle things like installing shelves and killing bugs? We also give tips on how to watch Black Panther with a queer eye, and Sarah comes up with a radical alternative to watching movies…that just happens to sound a lot like TV.
